THE DANGER OF UNFORGIVENESS
FORGIVEN
The Danger of Unforgiveness
Unforgiveness will lead more believers to hell than we realize. Our own standing with God depends on our willingness to release others, for as Jesus said:
"For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." (Matthew 6:14–15)
Scripture tells us that on the night of the Lord's coming, two will be in bed; one will be taken and the other left (Luke 17:34). This separation may not occur because of outward sins like fornication, but because unforgiveness has become the lord of the one left behind.
The Cost of Holding On
Choosing unforgiveness robs us of our blessings, peace, and progress in life. It is a root of bitterness that defiles many (Hebrews 12:15). This spiritual poison gives birth to:
- Hatred and Bitterness: The Bible warns that "Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him." (1 John 3:15)
- Malice and Heartache: We are commanded to "Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice." (Ephesians 4:31)
- Physical Ailments: There is a direct link between the soul and the body, for "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones." (Proverbs 17:22)
Unforgiveness steals your joy, halts your advancement, and gradually separates you from God. If we refuse to forgive, we risk being handed over to the "tormentors"....the spiritual consequences of a hard heart (Matthew 18:34–35).
The Power of Letting Go
Forgiveness is more powerful than vengeance. We must resist the urge to get even, remembering the Word: ..."Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: 'It is mine to avenge; I will repay,' says the Lord." (Romans 12:19)
- Make the Choice: Consciously choose to forgive without limit....not just seven times, but seventy times seven (Matthew 18:22).
- Pray for Offenders: If you find it difficult to let go, obey the high calling to ....."Bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you." (Luke 6:28)
- Protect Your Soul: Separate yourself from those assigned by hell to pull you down. Scripture reminds us, "Do not be misled: 'Bad company corrupts good character.'" (1 Corinthians 15:33)
Do not hesitate to cut off toxic influences that endanger your salvation.
